Ventra® capsules must be taken as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Ventra® capsules should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the capsules or their contents. This is because the capsules contain coated granules which stop the medicine from being broken down by the acid in your stomach. It is important not to damage the granules.

If you have trouble swallowing the capsules:

1) Open the capsule carefully above a glass of still (non-fizzy) water and empty the content of the capsule (granules) into the glass. Do not use any other liquids.

2) Stir. Then drink the mixture straight away or within 30 minutes. Always stir the mixture just before drinking it.

3) To make sure that you have drunk all of the medicine, rinse the glass very well with half a glass of water and drink it. The solid pieces contain the medicine – do not chew or crush them.

If you cannot swallow at all, the content of the capsule can be mixed with some water and put into a syringe. It can then be given to you through a tube directly into your stomach (‘gastric tube’).

Always use Fencino® patches exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. You should apply the patch to a flat part of your upper body or arm (not over a joint).

Please see the patient information leaflet for specific instructions on how to prepare the skin, open the patch sachet, apply the patch, and dispose of used patches.

  • There is enough medicine in each patch to last 3 days (72 hours)
  • You should change your patch every third day, unless your doctor has told you differently
  • Always remove the old patch before applying a new one
  • Always change your patch at the same time of day every 3 days (72 hours)
  • If you are using more than one patch, change all your patches at the same time
  • Make a note of the day, date and time you apply a patch, to remind you when you need to change your patch. There is a patch change calendar on the patient information leaflet in the box to help you with this.

Fencino® patches should be used only on the skin of the person for whom it has been prescribed.

There have been reports of patches accidentally sticking to a family member while in close physical contact or sharing the same bed as the person wearing the patch.

A patch accidentally sticking to another person (particularly a child) can cause the medicine in the patch to go through the skin of the other person and cause serious side effects such as breathing difficulties, with slow or shallow breathing which may be fatal.

In case the patch sticks to the skin of another person, take the patch off right away and get medical attention.

Fencino® patches should remain in their individual sealed child-resistant sachets until you are ready to use them.

Fencino® patches do not require any special storage conditions.

  • Fencino® patches contain a strong pain killer.
  • Ensure that old patches are removed before applying a new one.
  • The patches must not be cut.
  • Do not expose the patches to a heat source (such as a hot water bottles, heated water beds, heat or tanning lamps, electric blankets or heating pads) while wearing the patch.
  • Do not sunbathe, soak in a hot bath, use hot whirlpool spa baths or take a hot shower whilst wearing a patch.
  • If you develop a fever tell your doctor immediately.
  • Follow the dosage instructions carefully and only change your patch at the same time of day every 3 days (72 hours).
  • If your breathing becomes shallow and weak take the patch off and seek medical help.
  • Fencino® can have life-threatening side effects in people who are not already regularly using prescribed opioid medicines.
  • Fencino® is a medicine that could be life-threatening to children, even if the patches have been used. Bear in mind that a sticky patch (unused or used) could be tempting to a child and if it sticks to a child’s skin or they put it in their mouth, the result may be fatal.

Venlalic® XL tablets consist of a core containing the active substance, surrounded by an outer coating. A laser-drilled hole in the outer coating allows fluid to enter the tablet to dissolve the active substance, which is then slowly released into the gastrointestinal tract. The insoluble outer coating is then excreted in the stools, and is known as a “ghost tablet”.

Patients are advised in section 4 of the Patient Information Leaflet:

“Do not be concerned if you see a tablet in your stools after taking Venlalic® XL tablets. As the tablet travels the length of your gastrointestinal tract, venlafaxine is slowly released. The shape of the tablet remains undissolved and is eliminated in your stools. Therefore, even though you may see a tablet in your stools, your dose of venlafaxine has been absorbed”.

Venlalic® XL tablets must be taken as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Venlalic® XL tablets must be swallowed whole with fluid and not opened, crushed, chewed or dissolved.

We do not have information on the stability of Venlalic® XL tablets outside of the original packaging.

Venlalic® XL tablets must be stored below 30°C in the original package to protect from moisture.
